The Art of Audiobook Narration
The next dates for this class will be:
5 interactive sessions of 2 to 3 hours on weekends, taught by Dawn Harvey through Zoom with a maximum of 6 participants.
The class is open to anyone anywhere in the world, as long as you meet the prerequisites and can make the time work for you.
While paper and e-book sales continue their steady downward decline, the audiobook industry continues to grow by leaps and bounds, increasing by approximately 20-25% year after year after year. Learn what it takes to become a part of this exploding industry with this workshop, the only one of its kind in North America.
Taught by multi-award-winning audiobook narrator, Dawn Harvey, this course will cover audiobook basics such as:
- fiction and non-fiction considerations;
- 1st person vs. 3rd person reads;
- the roles and responsibilities of the narrator;
- audiobook preparation (including access to Dawn’s one of a kind audiobook preparation spreadsheet);
- researching tools (including links to the best resources);
- “casting” your novel;
- handling dialogue including other genders;
- accent/dialect considerations and tools;
- connecting with the text for an authentic read;
- and more!
Students will learn from a combination of lecture and one-on-one instruction as they work through 3 selections, 2 fiction and 1 non-fiction.
Having a microphone/headphone set up with your computer for the Zoom classes is recommended, however if you do not this is still a performance based class and we can work around it – as long as we can see you and hear you.
Prerequisite: Due to the advanced nature of this class previous voice over and/or acting experience is required – please detail in the order notes. If you have taken our Level 1 or Level 2 class, you qualify for this class.
Dawn Harvey has been teaching audiobook narration since 2014 and began directing audiobooks for a Canadian publisher in 2019. Dawn has always been passionate about sharing her knowledge, previously teaching classes in oil and gas law. She has taught her audiobook business and performance workshops multiple times throughout western Canada and began working with private students from across the country and around the globe in 2017.
She has received several Earphone and SOVAS Awards for her audiobook work.
